Mauritius: Java deer hunting open

The hunting season for Java deer is open since Saturday, May 30, 2015 in the 80 domains that are listed in the island and at the heart of primary forests.
In full austral winter and for three months, hunters will relentlessly track down wild game and are expected to shoot down over 10,000 deer. A passion which also results in an increase in poaching on the island each year and which represents four to five million rupees of financial losses for meat producers.
Deer meat is very popular among Mauritian consumers and is sold in the black market at a lower than in the regular course of commercial price.
