Mauritius: Increase of tourist arrivals in December, the French market tumbles down
The tourism industry in Mauritius has experienced a statistic upturn during the month of December, with 2.8% of holidaymakers compared to the same period in 2011.

High season figures which give joy to industry professionals on the island to begin 2013. About 115465 tourists set foot in Mauritius, the destination however tumbles on its main market, with a drop of 16.8% of arrivals from France.

New markets Russia (59%), Emirates (43%), and United States (15.2%) allow to Mauritius to finish the year on a positive note, as lexpress.mu relates.

"It is the emerging countries that have made this growth and it is thanks to our diversification effort... This gives us reason to hope that 2013 will be a better year for tourism, especially with the direct flights to Shanghai as from January 24. We negotiate with Aeroflot for several direct flights on the Russia from October 2013. The key is the flights", argues Michael SikYuen, Minister of tourism of Mauritius.

965,441 tourists have set foot on Mauritius soil in 2012, representing a growth rate of 0.1% compared to the year 2011.
