Mauritius: Hydroponic tomatoes are flooding the local production

From January to June 2014, some 4,586 tons of tomatoes were produced in Mauritius, of which 4,410 tons of hydroponic tomatoes.
Last year on the same calendar period, production represented 4,266 tons of tomatoes.
4,169 tons were thus of the tomatoes resulting from the hybrid culture, as reported by the Le Défi Quotidien newspaper.
As a reminder, the above ground or hydroponic culture is a culture whose roots vegetables were placed in the heart of a reconstituted without direct contact with the ground and is supplied with water and light in a greenhouse environment.
