The crime of the Irish tourist 28 years old, Michaela Harte-Mc Areavey found strangled at the beginning of 2011, after a robbery gone wrong in her hotel room, aroused strong emotions to the island and shook the pillar industry of the Mauritian economy.

67 cases of theft have been perpetrated in hotels of Mauritius from 2011 to May 2013.
 
The Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, specifically invited hotel managers to submit to the government, and this before the end of June next, a detailed their internal security plans against theft.
 
Now a mandatory document for all professionals who will not deposit this precious document will have their license unrenewed by the authorities.
 
In the first quarter of 2013, 117hotels operated in Mauritius, with a total capacity of 12,676 seats.
