Mauritius: First woman appointed President of the Republic?

The former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Mauritius Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, whose name was mentioned during the election campaign in case of victory of the alliance * Le Peuple (MSM-PMSD-ML) to replace at Castle of Réduit , Kailash Purryag to the presidency of the Republic, today expressed her willingness to take on this honorary position if members decide so.
"The Presidency has a huge role to play and I intend to play (this role) fully," said yesterday on Radio Plus, Ameenah Gurib-Fakim "hoping" to be "at the height ...". "We have already considered the record in five years. So work must start very quickly. We have all the time to stay in touch with the people. In the end it is the people who will vote you or sanction" also pointed out the one that should be the first woman to hold this position in Mauritius.
Ameenah Gurib-Fakim also highlighted her priorities such as the fight against poverty, education and protection of the environment.
