Mauritius: E-health to fight against the ravages of tobacco

A workshop on tobacco control was jointly organised on the island last week by the World Health Organisation (who) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health in Mauritius.
WHO particularly highlighted the use of technology through e-health to better raise awareness on the ravages of nicotine.
As a first step, the e-health program will focus on quitting smoking and will then be extended to treat other non-communicable diseases, with line of sight diabetes.
The Mauritian Minister of health, Lormus Bundhoo, stated that it is high time to change the traditional methods of communication for embracing modern technology, as indicated in the Le Matinal newspaper.
