Mauritius: Decrease the number of people killed on the roads on the island since the beginning of 2014

While the number of fatalities on the roads of Mauritius declined by 12.8% in 2013 with 136 people deceased, 98 people were killed from January 1 to September 29, 2014 in traffic accidents in Mauritius against 116 during the same calendar period in 2013, a decrease of slightly more than 18%.
37 motorcyclists and 24 pedestrians are thus counted in the 91 fatalities listed since the beginning of the year, as reported by the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.
The Mauritian authorities have especially aim on the introduction of the licence penalty point on May 10, 2013 and the proliferation of speed cameras on the island, to curb the road carnage and the requirement since this year for motorcyclists to wear a reflective vest at night.
As a reminder, 2012 was a nightmarish year for road safety in Mauritius, with 156 deaths on the roads of the island.
