Mauritius: Decline in tourism revenues in January 2014

Tourism revenues for the month of January 2014 amounted to 4.2 billion rupees (102 million euro) experienced a significant decrease of 10.9% over the same period calendar in 2013, where the sector had earned 4.7 billion of revenue (114 million euro), as indicated by the Central Bank of Mauritius in its latest report published a few days ago.
Meanwhile, tourist arrivals on the island in January 2014 were still up (3.7%), with 96.332 holidaymakers visited Mauritius at the beginning of the year against 92.894 tourists in January 2013, as reported by the Le Défi Quotidien newspaper.
As a reminder, the tourist arrivals to Mauritius grew by 2.9% in 2013 with 993.106 visitors recorded.
The official agency, Statistics Mauritius, provided in early March an increase of tourist arrivals in 2014, with an increase of 3.7% and approximately 1.030.000 travellers who should visit Mauritius this year.
