Mauritius: Counterfeit cigarettes made of sawdust wood

Mauritius: Counterfeit cigarettes made of sawdust wood
The Mauritius Police Force just put an end to acts of a trafficking network, this weekend, which sold on the local market of tobacco, cigarettes of the brand "Matinée", and containing sawdust and imported from China.

150 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes were seized as well and at least three people were arrested in the wake of the investigation.

The sawdust was mixed with poor quality tobacco.

Apart from a strange smell as well as a tobacco and paper texture inferior, the counterfeit cigarettes have gone unnoticed without the vigilance of the authorities, as the cigarette packets seized had the seal of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA).

Another detail that also betrayed counterfeiters, the same code was used on all spoofed packets, as indicated by the newspaper Lexpress of Mauritius.
