Mauritius: Casela Animal Park welcomes its very first pygmy hippopotamus

The park Casela World of Adventures implanted in western Mauritius at Cascavelle welcomed a few days ago a new boarder of choice in the person of the first pygmy hippopotamus to disembark in the island.
The female coming directly from Poland and currently in quarantine is called Luna. It is aged two and a half years and will reach its full maturity as from 4-5 years old and weigh 275 kilos.
The pygmy hippopotamus whose species is endangered with only some 3,000 individuals identified, arrived at the animal park in the context of an international program initiated for the protection of this herbivorous mammal enumerated mainly in West Africa.
As a reminder, the Casela World of Adventures has received from July 2014 to May 2015 some 340,000 foreign and Mauritian visitors. The park welcomes in its new configuration since December 2014 for a real safari in the Mauritian land giraffes, eland, impala, oryx, lions and around 70 antelopes. Animal Park Casela opened in 1979.
