Mauritius: Between 60,000 and 70,000 stray dogs on the island

According to a recent study unveiled last week by the Minister of agro-industry, Satish Faugoo and conducted during the months of June and July last in Mauritius by the Humane Society International and the Indian Blue Cross, between 60,000 and 70,000 stray dogs were counted on the island.

However, for the local association for the defense of animals, the vast majority of stray dogs have no major health problems even if possible cases of rabies are monitored very closely.

The authorities have decided on their side to emphasize mass sterilization campaigns after the capture of stray dogs on the island, as the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.
