Mauritius: Basmati rice is popular among consumers

Rice stamped Basmati is very popular with the Mauritian consumers. Over a sixty brands are currently competing, with varieties of starchy foods imported from India or Pakistan.
Mauritius brought about 50,000 tons of basmati annually and daily consumption is around 135 tons in the country.
The Mauritian authorities also multiply random checks among merchants to ensure that the false basmati rice is not sold instead of authentic Basmati rice. As a reminder, authentic Basmati rice should be constituted of only 5% of broken or different rice.
