Mauritius: Bananas affected by a disease

While Mauritians of Tamil confession are preparing to celebrate religiously the Thaipoosam Cavadee tomorrow, Friday, in honour of the deity Muruga, devotees may be in shortage of bananas for their ritual ceremony.
Since according to farmers, plantations of bananas in Mauritius are affected head-on at the beginning of the year 2014 by a disease that affects the banana leaves, with a direct impact on the growth in term of fruit.
Smaller sizes, bananas thus reach early maturity and are softer than usual according to farmers, as indicated by the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.
"As the leaves blacken shortly after, we are forced to cut regimes when the fruits reach a certain size", laments a professionals in the sector.
