Mauritius: Announced increase of tourist arrivals for the month of August of at least 7.5% according to Minister of tourism
Tourist arrivals in Mauritius allegedly continued to rise after successive increases in June and July 2013.

For the Mauritian Minister of Tourism Michael Sik Yuen, which wants to be more than optimistic, the growth for the month of August could be between 7.5% and 12%.

"Some very promising signs with a tendency in the right direction for the rest of the year. Mauritius will definitely be much better than last year", said Michael Sik Yuen which is based on the increase in bookings during the last two months for the period from September to December, as related by the newspaper Le Défi Quotidien.

On his side at the end of August, the official statistics of Mauritius, Mauritius Statistics had lowered its forecast of tourist arrivals in the island with 980,000 visitors expected for 2013.

As a reminder, in 2012 Mauritius hosted 965,441 tourists and during the first six months of the year 2013, 471,664 tourists have deposited their baggage, with 264,200 European travelers down 3.7% over the same calendar period 2012.
