Mauritius: Air Mauritius essential player in the tourism economy according to its general manager

"Without Air Mauritius, it would have had no tourism industry", said in an interview to Business Mag, the Mauritian national airline general manager, André Viljoen.

According to him, Air Mauritius is a key player in the tourist economy of Mauritius and Rodrigues, stressing that it is the only airline whose interest is in direct relation with the development of local tourism and which adopted a strategic policy in this sense and also taking notice as to different tour operators.

André Viljoen has also put forward that to support its strategic policy Air Mauritius proposed 1.87 million seats on all of its flights during the fiscal year 2013-2014, as relates the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.

Over 1.3 million passengers thus borrowed Air Mauritius lines to travel on departure and arrival destination Mauritius, "which represents half of the traffic on our country."

As a reminder, after two fiscal years of difficulty, the company Air Mauritius, recorded net profits of 7.3 million euros for fiscal year 2013-2014.
