Mauritius: A priest prosecuted for indecent assault delivered on parole

After spending a night in a police cell, a priest was convicted Wednesday of indecent assault on a 15 year old. The accused filed a bail of 25,000 rupees (641 euros) and signed an acknowledgment of debt 100,000 rupees (2,564 euros) to regain parole.
The incident allegedly took place on April 25 at the home of the priest. The latter denied all charges against him.
Father Joseph Moctee was nevertheless suspended by the diocese. The vicar-general, Jean -Maurice Labour, said that justice must take its course and that the Church will not interfere in the investigation but said that the priest should benefit from the presumption of innocence.
