Mauritius: A policeman locked up for drug trafficking

The anti-drug brigade police who landed last Friday in late morning in Grand Gaube, in the North of the island, to interrogate a cannabis dealer, in their viewfinder a police officer is also suspected of playing an active role in this drug trafficking.

 In the crosshairs of his colleagues, the police officer assigned at Trou - aux-Biches in the North-West of the island took his heels during the police operation. A run that has not been long since the policeman was arrested a few hours later. The offending officer was remanded in custody.

The police operation pursued at Grand Gaube has led to the seizure of several cannabis plants. Police however had to face the wrath of 500 inhabitants of the area who did not appreciate the action of forces and tried to suppress with stone-throwing.
 
  The projectiles have damaged several vehicles and injured slightly a few police officers including a slightly more seriously injured in the head.
