Mauritius: A police corporal presumed ripou arrested for bribery

A 59 year old officer corporal in the Mauritius Police Force and assigned to serve Sodnac Quatre-Bornes was arrested last Wednesday for bribery, after claiming a bribe to a young man 23 years involved in a case of uncovered checks in October.
The latter has also made two weeks detention for the facts alleged against him.
In charge of instructing the investigation, the police corporal will try to extirpate the young defendant a sum of 7,000 rupees (175 euros) in the first instance before asking 5,000 rupees (125 euros) to close the case quickly.
But the young man refused any arrangement and a complaint to the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) against the ripou police, as indicated by the newspaper Le Défi Quotidien..
The latter was presented in immediate court appearance of Rose Hill, late last week and was able set out free after paying a deposit.
