Mauritius: 9.099 tons of meat imported in 2013

In 2013 Mauritius has imported 9.099 tons of meat for a total cost of more than 2.1 billion rupees.*
It is thus 3.600 tons of bovine meat, some 512 tons of meat if swine meat, 4.918 tons of mutton and lamb and about 69 tons of goat meat which had been bought from external markets, notably from France, Australia and New Zealand, according to the  Le Défi Quotidien newspaper.
"The meat remains one of the most popular products of Mauritians. Meat available in Mauritius are healthy at 100% for human consumption, where the breeding, slaughter and storage standards are met in detail and quality products," says Jean Tamineau, Director of Jumbo in Mauritius.
