Mauritius: 7.5 million euros of drug seized in 2012
For the year 2012, the market value of all drug seizures amounted to 300 million rupees (7.5 million euros) in Mauritius, with a total number of offences decreasing according to the latest official figures.
3,472 drug-related cases have been identified in 2012 against 4,857 for the previous year. 67% of offences are in direct relation to the consumption and trafficking of cannabis.

Heroine is involved in 14% of cases in 2012. Sedatives products and other Buprenorphine each represent 8% of offenses against drugs.
From 2011 to 2012, a decrease of the amount of cannabis seized was recorded (33%), while at the same time, seizures of heroin were multiplied by five, as indicated by the newspaper Le Défi Quotidien.
