Mauritius: 52 deaths since the beginning of the year on the roads of the island

From January 1, 2014 at the beginning of the week, 52 people were killed on the roads of the island of Mauritius.

As a reminder, the number of people killed on the Mauritian roads has decreased by 12.8% in 2013 compared with official figures recorded in 2012 with 136 deceased persons, as indicated in the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.

The Mauritian authorities have particular aim to curb road carnage in recent years on the introduction of the license penalty points, on May 10, 2013, and the proliferation of speed cameras on the island as well as the obligation from 2014 for motorcyclists to wear a reflective vest at night.
