Mauritius: 1,781 cases of gastroenteritis reported in one week

According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health, 1,781 cases of gastroenteritis have been recorded in the five hospitals of Mauritius from January 5 to 11. A daily average of 250 cases is currently identified.
The weather conditions in the wake of high rainfall and a high humidity, and persistent heat are singled out. 808 cases of gastroenteritis have been reported over the same calendar period in 2014 of 6 to 12 January.
In this period of austral summer, the Ministry of Health always advise the public to take precautions. Strict hygiene is especially recommended. Symptoms most frequently observed gastroenteritis are inter alia, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain and cramping.
The ministry also requests the public to boil water ten minutes before drinking, wash hands with water and soap for 20 seconds before eating, cooking and after using the toilet. It is also recommended to wash fruits and vegetables before consumption recalls the ministry.
