Mauritius: 174 women as candidates to run for the 120 seats of municipal councilors

While the Labour Party (PTr) through the voice of former Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, announced in last weekend of drawing a definitive line on his participation in the municipal elections on 14 June as a result of uncertain finances, * Lepep alliance led by Sir Anerood Jugnauth and current head of government, who is in control of the country since December 2014 following his victory of the last legislative elections, will be opposed mainly by the Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM)which is still recovering.
The Mauves are increasingly vulnerable by numerous defections in internal party of weight figures and which wanted to challenge the leadership of Paul Berenger whose MMM-PTr alliance of the last general election and the collapsed electoral that followed, has been severely criticized.
For the 120 seats of the municipal councilors to be filled in all five cities of Mauritius (Port Louis, Beau-Bassin / Rose-Hill, Curepipe, Quatre-Bornes and Vacoas-Phoenix), 539 applications were registered this week- end. 174 candidates running for office for 394,965 urban voters.

Port Louis 113.720 voters and 32 seats of municipal councilors
Vacoas-Phoenix 83 389 voters and 24 seats of municipal councilors
Beau-Bassin / Rose-Hill 77 710 voters and 24 seats of municipal councilors
Curepipe 61,229 voters and 20 seats of municipal councilors
Quatre-Bornes 58,917 voters and 20 seats of municipal councilors
* The Lepep alliance brings together the Mouvement Socialiste Militant (MSM), PMSD (Parti Mauricien Social Démocrate) and the Mouvement Libérateur (ML)
