Despite five years of political crisis that have severely impacted the Malagasy economy, which recorded a net slowdown, the authorities of the island can still rely on an agricultural sector that still represents to them only 45% of the gross national product and drains every year in its wake about 27% of Madagascar's gross domestic product.
In addition, 40% of exported goods are from the agricultural sector.
The Ministry of Agriculture to develop the agricultural sector, with the funding of a new plan of action for rural development (PADR) with the support of the major donors of Madagascar.
According to Rolland Ravatomanga, Minister of Agriculture, the signature on the future Fund should be formalised in the year 2014, as reported by the newspaper Le Courrier of Madagascar.
