Madagascar: UNICEF releases funds over five years to the children of Madagascar

While UNICEF has lately released emergency assistance to support the local population affected by food insecurity in extreme southern Madagascar, Malagasy Minister of Economy and Planning, Herilanto Raveloharison and the representative UNICEF in the island, Elke Wisch signed earlier this week a plan of action to be deployed in the Island for the period 2015-2019 by the humanitarian association for the survival and protection of children worldwide.

A budget of 197.8 million dollars thus will be engaged for assisting the Government of Madagascar. 56.8 million dollars of capital from UNICEF and the remaining 141 million dollars will be mobilized by other resources.
As a reminder, Madagascar ranks the fourth in the world in terms of chronic malnutrition, with nearly one Malagasy children - aged less than 5 years -on two (47%) who is affected by stunting. Some 44,000 children die annually also before their fifth birthday due to illness that they might not incur if they had been vaccinated upstream.
