Madagascar: Tourist arrivals increased by 5% in the Island

According to the National Tourism Office of Madagascar (ONTM), tourist arrived in the Island for 2014 are expected to increase by 5% to be close to 220,000 tourists.
"According to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, a 13% increase was observed in the first nine months of 2014. But the past three months have been more or less stable ..." said a tourism official in Madagascar.
For a hotel operator on the side of Foulpointe (East of Madagascar), "it is the local tourism that saved the season." "Local tourists account for 80% of our occupants."
As a reminder, 255,942 tourists were welcomed to Madagascar in 2012, nearly 29% went to the island of Nosy Be, and about 198,816 visitors traveled to the Island in 2013.
