Madagascar: The tilapia baraoa fish by of Itasy Lake in danger

The famous fish tilapia baraoa, of the Itasy Lake (3,500 hectares) and located 130 kilometers west of Tananarive, is under threat.
Tilapia caught in the waters of the Lake average altitude are smaller and fewer there are fifty years where resources were the 1,400 tons.
Today, fisheries resources concerning the baraoa tilapia is only 150 tons in the wake of overfishing as well as erosion and the silting up of part of the Lake of Itasy which has gnawed 300 hectares in area.
About 1,800 fishermen are officially registered and work on the Lake.
Some of them do not hesitate especially to violate regulations and continue to fish during periods of closure of the baraoa tilapia to feed an illegal parallel market of fish which are then sold on the stalls of Ampefy and Analavory markets, as reported by the newspaper L'Express of Madagascar.
