Madagascar: The electricity network failures cost 140 million euros to the country

The Ambassador of France in the Island, François Goldblatt, said on his Twitter account that numerous dysfunctions within the JIRAMA in charge of the Malagasy electrical service public network, resulted in financial losses evaluated at 140 million euros in 2014.
An amount that represents 10% of government expenditure and jeopardizes according to him all efforts upstream by donors in support of Madagascar's development.
As a reminder, Madagascar is subject to an average of 624 hours of load shedding of electricity per year, or 26 days in total. Power cuts occur on average for 8 hours, and about 78 times each year in the wake of the financial difficulties of Jirama in charge of serving the public network.
