Madagascar: The coffee industry in great difficulty for export

According to the latest statistics, the coffee industry in the Island is currently experiencing huge difficulties in exporting its product to foreign markets. While 10,000 tons went in exports in 2007, the export of coffee tumbled down by 83% in January 2015 and 86% the following month.
A strong decrease would be directly related to the plants increasingly old and with heavy rains and cyclones that wash plantation land throughout the years. In Madagascar, 95% of Robusta coffee is cultivated and the rest of the production is Arabica coffee.
