Madagascar: The Island less dependent on importation of rice in 2015 according to the FAO

According to an investigation by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), rice importation requirements in Madagascar would average 235,000 tons this year against some 363 423 tons imported in 2014 and about 410,373 tons in 2013.
Remember that the rice sector in Madagascar has attracted in its wake some 4.3 million tons of rice in 2014 following a particularly challenging 2013 harvest. Rice production in 2014 was notably better because of locust control carried out in the Island against migratory locusts.
