Madagascar: The IMF waiting for concrete responses from the government before the release of a new line of credit for the country

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will discuss with the Malagasy authorities on 17 and 19 April in Washington of the possible conditions for granting a credit with repayment facilities provided and which could exceed the 45 million dollars previously made available in June 2014 by the institution.
The last field visit in early March did not have the time convinced the IMF to proceed to checkout. A forthcoming date for a trip to Madagascar will also be discussed.
In March 2015, the delegation under the leadership ofGeorge Tsibouris had had meetings with President Hery Rajaonarimampianina, Prime Minister Jean Ravelonarivo, the Minister of Finance, Francois Maurice Gervais Rakotoarimanana, as well as the Governor of the Central Bank of countries, Alain Rasolofondraibe.
Better tax revenue, reduction of the budget deficit and measures to strengthen the fight against corruption are expected by the International Monetary Fund, which also wants to see result of structural reforms in the energy sector, which paralyzes the economy with rolling power cuts in the Island.
