Madagascar: The AIDS virus has killed 4,800 people in the Island in 2013

Despite the low prevalence rate of AIDS * registered in Madagascar which remains less than 1%, HIV-AIDS virus in the Island has killed 4,800 Malagasy in 2013. 381 new HIV-positive people have also been identified last year.
As a reminder, over 50,000 people are now HIV positive in Madagascar according to the latest data from the UNAIDS. The prevalence of HIV was 0.02% in 1987 in the Island.
* The AIDS prevalence rate is determined by the number of individuals infected compared to the general population of Madagascar
