Madagascar: Sharp increase in the price of charcoal bag

With the bad weather which struck the Big Island over the past weeks, charcoal bags are becoming increasingly hard to find in the capital Tananarive.
Charcoal bags are currently being sold at about 40,000 ariarys * against 30,000 ariarys normally.
As a reminder, two thirds of Malagasy households use this fuel to cook their prepared meals. Charcoal for household use is also used as a power source for most Malagasy households located in urban areas.
The average monthly household consumption is estimated at two bags of charcoalor between 60 and 70 pounds of charcoal. Household demand for charcoal in particular tripled over the past thirty years.
* One euro roughly equivalent to 3.196 ariarys
