Madagascar: President Hery Rajaonarimampianina wants to fight against the traffic of rosewood by establishing a Special Court

The new President Hery Rajaonarimampianina, who has decided to fight the trafficking of rose wood frontally in Madagascar since last February plans to set up a Special Court for people who surrender perpetrators or accomplices of such trafficking, as indicated in the newspaper Courrier of Madagascar .
The Malagasy authority wants to rely on the order of August 8, 2011 * that harshly punishes those involved in the illegal trade of rose wood, with a term of imprisonment of two to five years.
As a reminder, rose wood, protected and endangered species, is at the heart of a traffic prohibited destined for Asia.
Traffickers exploit a parallel lucrative market where a kilo of precious wood sells for around 500 dollars (377 euros).
Order 2011-01 comes in addition to a decree promulgated on March 31, 2010 in Madagascar and prohibiting cutting and trade of rosewood and ebony
