Madagascar: Possible epidemic outbreak of the virus responsible for polio in the north of the Island

A possible epidemic outbreak of polio virus responsible was located by the Malagasy health authorities Analalava in the north-west of the Island.

A wide vaccination campaign was launched since the beginning of the week over thirty districts of northern Madagascar, such as in Sofia, Diana, Boeny Sava Melaky and Analanjirofo.
Over 25% of children are not immune in the country according to estimations.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has also set a goal to eradicate the virus, by deploying large-scale vaccination campaigns on the Malagasy territory. In 25 years, the number of polio cases has dropped by almost 99%.
