Madagascar: Official launch of the harvest of vanilla in the producing regions of the island

The official launch of harvesting of vanilla in Madagascar was set by Decree of the regional administration to 15 June next in the producing regions of Diana and Sofia.
The Green Gold harvest will begin July 1 for the regions of Sava and Vatovavy Fitovinany and 10 July on the side of Analanjirofo and Diego Suarez.
Malagasy Vanilla professionals thus provide a tonnage of 1,800 tons to export and which is expected to generate a turnover of 200 billion ariary *, as reported by the newspaper Courrier of Madagascar.
As a reminder, Madagascar produces 60% of vanilla exported to the four corners of the planet.
Between 1,200 and 1,500 tons of cloves are harvested annually, but production in 2013 was dropped to a little less than 1,000 tons because of low flowering.
80,000 planters in Madagascar thus gain their living from the intensive culture of Orchid fertilised manually.
A cottage industry that employs the vast plantations in North of the Island in the heart of the humid tropics a cheap labor market.
