Madagascar: Next tuna fishing agreement between the European Union and Madagascar

An agreement on tuna fishing which should enter into force in January 2015 for six years is currently in its final phase of negotiations between the Malagasy authorities and the European institutions.
The agreement would grant the right to operate in Malagasy waters vessels of the European Union (Spain, Portugal, Italy and France) to fish some 15,000 tons of tuna per year.
 The Malagasy authorities would benefit from financial compensation, with payment of 1.525.000 euros, including 550,000 euros would be directly granted to promote and the sustainable management of the fisheries resources of the island as shown in the newspaper L'Express of Madagascar.
