Madagascar: Hundreds of millions of dollars wasted with slash and burn crops

According to a recent study by the World Bank report on the losses caused by environmental degradation in Madagascar, 450 million dollars wasted, 10% of gross domestic product (GDP) of the Island in the wake of cultures burning, as reported by the newspaper L'Express of Madagascar.
Forests of Madagascar unique biodiversity are thus prey to massive deforestation.
Burn cultivation, locally called Tavy, and production of charcoal decimated over a large area ecological lung of the Island.
Each year, there are also 200,000 hectares of forest are reduced to ashes by the slash and burn and fires.
