Madagascar: FAO releases 500,000 dollars in emergency to fight against migratory locusts in the Island

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has recently released 500,000 dollars in emergency to support the anticridienne campaign on the move in the Island.
5.5 million dollars to collect from supporters are still missing. Moreover a further invasion of migratory locusts could jeopardize the Island and eventually undo all the efforts made since 2013.
The FAO had expected that at least three consecutive locust campaigns since September 2013 would be necessary to completely treat areas which has been hardly hit by the invasion of migratory locusts. The total cost of these campaigns had been initially assessed at 43.9 million.
Swarms of locusts since April 2012 have already caused extensive damage on corn plantations, rice as well as other cereal crops.
