Madagascar: Approximately 54,000 schoolchildren have deserted the school path due to famine in the Southern Madagascar

The extreme south of the country is touched very hard by a severe drought and famine locally called kéré threatening the food security of hundreds of thousands of people in the Island.
For six years, Madagascar had not experienced such a drought. This acute shortage of rain has significant collateral consequences since more than half of the Great South Malagasy children do not go to school since several weeks.
According to the Minister of Education, Paul Rabary, 54,000 of the 100,000 schoolchildren are listed and concerned by this mass absenteeism.
