Madagascar: A new law under consideration for the safeguard of the fishery resources of the Island

The Malagasy authorities want to establish in the near future a new law in the fisheries and aquaculture sector in Madagascar.
The objective is thus to preserve fish resources of the Island, as shown in the Midi Madagasikara newspaper.
"Against the extent overexploitation and illegal exploitation of our fishery resources, it is necessary to have a law for limiting the chaos while protecting our resources," the prime minister Roger Kolo said on Thursday at the opening of the government workshop held at the Hotel Colbert of Tananarive to validate the outline of the next draft law with all actors in the folder.
For its part, the Minister of Fisheries, Ahmad, also highlighted that this new law will be fixed to meet the existing legal void "the penalties and sanctions in case of violation," particularly concerning "the illegal exploitation of black corals ".
