Madagascar: A bill to protect humpback whales in preparation

While the Island Whale Festival of St. Mary took place from July 4 to 12, and was preceded by a World Congress (June 29-July 3) for protection and scientific research around cetaceans, representations of Malagasy State has recently announced that the Ministry of Environment is preparing to introduce a bill to protect marine mammals.
The Malagasy Ministry of Environment will submit to the deputies at the next session of the National Assembly a text in the sense and could be officially recorded definitively in October. Madagascar should then apply to join the International Whaling Commission.
It is to be remembered that a thousand marine mammals, including many humpback whales converge from mid-June to October in the channel island St. Mary located along the east coast of Madagascar to breed. Then in the month of November, the whales begin their long journey from Madagascar to the rich waters of Antarctica.
