Madagascar: 85 villagers and five gendarmes killed by zebu thieves in 2014

According to a report of the Malagasy gendarmerie, 213 zebu thieves (dahalo) have been slaughtered in 2014 by the forces of order and five gendarmes have been killed by bullets of zebu thieves last year. 85 villagers wanting to protect their livestock have also lost their lives from the attacks of dahalo.
As a reminder, the zebu theft comes from ancient Malagasy traditions, but still well established in the hinterland. Symbol of virility before marriage, criminal gangs have turned away from its original meaning, to transform it into a lucrative traffic in Madagascar.
