Madagascar: 56 deaths of the plague in 2014 on the Island

The health authorities of Madagascar have decided to suspend until April rat extermination campaign on the Island.

The reason given by the Ministry of Health is that the spread of the plague in the country is under control after experiencing an epidemic peak in recent months.

According to the latest official figures, 209 confirmed cases of plague were reported in Madagascar in 2014. 56 people died this year after being infected with the infectious disease.

The localities of Tsiroanomandidy and Amparafaravola were particularly impacted by the bacterium Yersinia pestis.
