Madagascar: 450 illegal houses demolished in the slums of the capital Tananarive

The demolition work of illegal constructions built without a building permit in Tananarive are once again topical since the middle of the week.
The neighborhoods of Andohatapenaka and Ampefiloha Ambodirano situated in the slums of the Malagasy capital are covered by this drastic measure. The urban community of Tananarive (AUC) wants to clear the evacuation channels of rainwater and prevent the severe floods that struck Tananarive in late February, with about twenty dead and more than 88,000 homeless listed.
About 450 makeshift lodgings will be thus be wiped out before the next rainy season. April 3, about thirty houses have already been torn down in the district of Andohatapenaka.
As a reminder, 70% of structures that are in the slums are illegal with a large majority of them who neither possess food nor water discharge system.
