Madagascar: 4 million unemployed people on the Island and an informal predominating sector

According to the latest figures from the International Labour Office (ILO), unemployment highly struck some 4 million people in Madagascar.
But this official figure would be higher, because the informal sector is predominant on the Island.
Thus, only 4% of Malagasy employees have a formal position in accordance with international standards.
Women are more numerous in the informal sector, over 94.5% against 91.7% for men.
Most of the employed workforce work mainly in the agricultural sector in Madagascar.
At the same time each year, about 400,000 to 500,000 young people enter the job market and join the ranks of the unemployed on the Island.
