Madagascar: 23,600 hectares treated in late October against the invasion of locusts in the Island

While the second phase of the locust campaign was launched since last September, two helicopters are operational for carrying out on the field the operations of aerial spraying of pesticides on a large scale, and this, to eradicate the insects.
Thus, at the end of October 2014, some 23,600 hectares of locust infested were treated in the Tulear region in the south of the Island, as indicated by the Midi Madagasikara newspaper.
As a reminder, locust swarms since April 2012 have ravaged plantations of corn, rice and other cereal crops, with several regions of Madagascar devastated to almost 70%.
