Earthquake recorded off Chagos




A moderate earthquake estimated at 4.8 on the Richter scale hit the Chagos Archipelago, located at 1800 km in the North of Mauritius Monday, November 11 at 4:15 local time, according to the U.S. National Center information on earthquakes (NEIC).

The epicenter of the seismic phenomenon was recorded at a depth at sea of 27.3 kilometers near the Egmont Islands, approximately 124 kilometres north-west of the US of Diego Garcia military base, as shown in the site malango - actualite.fr.

The Chagos Archipelago which has been shaken in March 2011 by a similar earthquake did not feel the effects of any seismic event and no damage has been identified on site.
