Spirulina in Reunion island

Spirulina is a micro-alga which has a lot of benefits when used as a dietary supplement.

So named because of its spiral form, it belongs to the blue-green family of algae and is very rich in phycocyanin, the only naturally occurring blue pigment.

It is rich in proteins, carotenoids, beta-carotene, iron, gamma-linolenic acid, chlorophyll, minerals and vitamins which make it a "super-food", deemed to be a powerful antioxidant.

This alga is produced in Reunion island by passionate "farmers" that we met in the heights of St Paul and St Leu where they grow the alga in an open pool.

Spiruline Bourbon, which belongs to the Fédération des Spiruliniers de France, has been selling its products since 2013.
This producer takes pride in their small-scale culture which means they can guarantee the production is 100% natural and uses processes that preserve all the vitamins.
Imports are currently estimated at 15 tonnes per year, but that produced in Réunion is of much higher quality, especially when bought fresh, which guarantees optimal benefits.
A good asset for Reunion island and the Vanilla Islands.
