Scientists of the International Union for the conservation of nature (IUCN) in collaboration with the national Museum of natural history have listed that a dozen species of birds are threatened in Mayotte.

This is particularly the case for the black swift African or Humblot's Heron, both classified in danger.

White pond heron is on its side classed in critical danger of extinction, and the Drongo of Mayotte, endemic species of the island, is placed in the category of vulnerable birds.

Thus, it is about 25% of the breeding birds of Mayotte which are threatened in the term according to the red list of birds of Mayotte by the IUCN.
